Innocent Ink

Our standard

What every bottle will meet

We would rather tell you exactly what is in the bottle than ask you to trust a word like "natural". This page is the promise, and every batch will come with the paperwork to check it.

1. Pigments from nature only

Our black is carbon from sustainably harvested hardwood charcoal. Earth tones come from natural mineral clays and ochres. Plant colors are on our test bench, and each one joins the line only after it passes independent testing for how it holds up in skin. We do not use pigments that were made for car paint, plastics or printing ink.

2. A plant-based carrier

The liquid that carries the pigment is plant based. We do not use acrylic or other plastic binders.

3. Every ingredient on the label

Each bottle lists every ingredient in order of amount. Nothing is hidden behind "proprietary blend".

4. An independent lab report for every batch

An outside lab tests each batch for heavy metals (such as lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium and nickel) and for bacteria and fungi. The report for your batch number is published on this site.

5. Made the way the rules require

In the United States, tattoo ink is regulated as a cosmetic. We will follow the FDA's guidance for tattoo ink makers, work to cosmetic good manufacturing practice (ISO 22716), sterilize and seal every bottle, and register with the FDA before the first sale. For Europe, every formula will be checked against the EU's REACH limits for tattoo inks before we ship there.

6. Vegan

No bone char, shellac, animal glycerin or other animal ingredients.

What we will not claim. No tattoo ink is approved by the FDA, including ours. Any tattoo carries risks such as infection and allergic reaction, and natural ingredients can cause reactions too. Talk to your doctor if you have allergies or a skin condition, and ask your artist for a patch test.
